London, Oct 9: A novel cultural occasion and exhibition celebrating the cultural exuberance of the 8 states of Northeast India was organised by the Girls of North East Assist Community (WNESN) UK, in collaboration with Nehru Centre, London on October 7, 2022.

WNESN was shaped in 2020 in the course of the pandemic and is a community-based ladies’s group occupied with private progress and success in all areas of life.

WNESN spokeswoman, Afifa Fatemi, mentioned, “As a bunch we intention to assist one another and the broader Northeast neighborhood of India via showcasing the 8 Northeastern states as distinctive vacationer locations, in addition to promote the various arts, tradition and heritage of the area on an Worldwide platform.”

A cultural extravaganza was put collectively by WNESN on October 7, 2022, the place a packed room was taken on a journey to the magical and mystical land on the foothills of the Himalayas. Performers from every state dazzled the viewers with a sleek Bihu dance, Sattriya Nritya dance and melodies from the enchanting state of Assam. A harvest dance and a khasi folktale ‘U Sier Lapalang’ from the land of the clouds – Meghalaya. The Jewel of India – Manipur owned the stage of their conventional apparel adopted by a classical ‘Krishna dance’. The land of the Mizos – Mizoram melodiously sang ‘Khuangchawi thla’ celebrating the harvest season which coincides with the month of October. Lastly, insightful, instructional and galvanizing shows had been comprised of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh amongst others.

The occasion was graced by the Excessive Commissioner of India, Vikram Doraiswami, and Deputy Director of Nehru Centre, Sanjay Ok. Sharma.

In his speech, Vikram Doraiswami mentioned, “This is a chance to be acquainted with what is well one of the lovely and least understood elements of a various and huge nation like India. That is in itself very particular. Every state of the Northeast has its personal tradition, custom, arts, crafts and certainly its personal distinct set of communities. The Northeast is a sequence of civilizations in a single place, and admittedly every week could be very little to do justice to the area. The Northeast cuisines, languages, the dance types and their historical past, every one is exclusive and worthy of its personal research. However far-off from Northeast India, to be a part of this right here in London, is about nearly as good as it’s going to get.”

The Meghalaya neighborhood, UK, added , “We’re very proud to be a part of such a memorable occasion and be capable to showcase the various arts, tradition and heritage of our state. The 8 states meet is an epitome of unity, solidarity and delight of the sister states. Lastly, because the saying goes- house is the place the guts is- stands so true with the Meghalayan neighborhood within the UK.”

Subsequent, cultural artifacts from the 8 states of Northeast India shall be displayed at Nehru Centre, London from October 10-14 to intrigue and whet the curiosities of worldwide audiences within the UK. The Exhibition beckons with the tagline, “Come and be a part of the 8 sisters meet and discover our intriguing mix of tradition and custom”.

Entrance to the exhibition is free and welcomes all to witness the wonderful murals by a few of the best artists of the area. This, they are saying, is a humble try to advertise the creative and cultural richness of the North Japanese area of India to a global viewers.
