The Department of Government and Politics in St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the nonprofit group Reaching Independence by Social Engagement (RI-SE), will discover vital problems with human rights throughout a roundtable dialogue on Thursday, September 23, in Suite D of the College Middle on St. John’s College’s Queens, NY, campus, at 3:30 p.m.
The dialogue, “Classes Discovered: Countering Human Rights Violations and Antidemocratic Backlash,” examines nonviolent actions around the globe and explores efforts to counter human rights violations and antidemocratic backlash. Scheduled to coincide with the annual United Nations General Assembly assembly, it options students, overseas coverage consultants, and people instantly concerned within the world combat in opposition to human rights violations.
RI-SE is a nonprofit group that promotes, mediates, and facilitates nonviolent actions at native and nationwide ranges around the globe.

Ambassador John W. Limbert is a retired International Service Officer and educational. In 2018, he ended 12 years as Class of 1955 Professor of Center Japanese Research on the US Naval Academy. Throughout a 34-year diplomatic profession, he served principally within the Center East and Islamic Africa (together with two excursions in Iraq), was Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State chargeable for Iranian affairs. Starting in 1964, he labored in Iran as a college and highschool trainer and later served on the US Embassy in Tehran, the place he was held hostage in 1979–81.
