FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky‘s Supreme Courtroom has launched a fee aimed toward bettering the judicial system’s strategy to circumstances involving psychological well being, substance use and mental disabilities.

The brand new Kentucky Judicial Fee on Psychological Well being will work to enhance the observe, high quality and timeliness of the judicial response to circumstances involving these wants.

“The prevalence of psychological sickness, substance use dysfunction and mental disabilities in our society is simple,” Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. mentioned Thursday.

“For courts and our justice system, this prevalence has a disproportionate affect because the justice system has develop into the default system for addressing the wants of these with behavioral and psychological well being points,” he added. “And our state prisons and county jails are, with out query, the biggest suppliers of psychological well being providers on this state.”

Supreme Courtroom Justice Debra Hembree Lambert will chair the fee.
