NORWAY — Joan Marie Bal, 87, of Norway, handed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at Baylor Scott and White Medical Middle in Lakeway, Texas.
Joan was born in Norway on Feb. 19, 1934, to the late Leo and Marie (Sturm) Bertolini.
After graduating from Norway Excessive Faculty in 1952, Joan labored for the Norway Present newspaper and print store for about 4 years earlier than becoming a member of wholesale grocery distributer Northland.
On April 22, 1961, Joan married Walter Paul Bal and moved to Milwaukee. Whereas in Milwaukee, Joan raised their daughters serving as a Brownie chief and serving to with their Lady Scout Troop.
In 1973, Wally accepted a brief work project in Fort Walton Seashore, Fla. and off they went.
Throughout their 12 months in Florida, Joan and Wally took up sq. dancing, with Joan utilizing her stitching expertise to make their costumes. In 1975 the household moved to Indianapolis.. In Indianapolis, many hours had been spent taking part in Euchre with their neighbors. As her daughters went off to varsity, Joan resumed her profession working at Fulton Junior Excessive Faculty for 15 years.
Upon retirement, Joan and Wally returned dwelling to Norway. Joan was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, the Girls of St Mary’s, the Girls’s Auxiliary for the American Legion Publish 145, and the Norway Girls’s Membership. She loved knitting and crocheting making afghans for all family members. For the final 13 years, Joan was chairman of the Dickinson Space Group Basis Walter Bal Scholarship. Joan’s previous few years had been spent in Austin, Texas.
Joan possessed a fierce willpower with all challenges she confronted. She earned her honorary nursing diploma caring for Wally in his final years. She bravely confronted her personal lowering mobility and eventual paraplegia. She was very pleased with her daughters, grandchildren, and nice grandchildren. In her previous few years, Joan loved consuming out, Bingo, train class, visits with grandson Jon, and FaceTime with granddaughter Katie and great-grandchildren, Addison and Brianne.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Linda Bal of Austin and Diane (Larry) Frantz of Carmel, Ind.; grandchildren, Katie (Josh) Tummers of Louisville, Ken. and Jon Frantz of Fishers, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Addison and Brianne Tummers; in-laws, Bernice Bal, Marie Bal, Marie Devine, Patsy (William) Zanona, Marge Meneghini, Dorothy Manke, George (Betty) Bal and Helen Galleger; quite a few particular nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in loss of life by her husband, Wally; her dad and mom; brothers, Leo Bertolini Jr. and Robert Bertolini; in-laws, John Bal, Joseph and Margie Bal, Edward Bal, Robert Devine, and Lee Meneghini.

Visitation will likely be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway.
The Mass of Christian Burial will likely be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the church with Fr. Martin Flynn officiating.
Interment will observe on the Norway Township Cemetery.
