Imitation weapons have to be simply recognized with vivid colours or made fully of see-through supplies underneath a measure signed Tuesday by Gov. Kathy Hochul. 

The brand new legislation is supposed to clarifty and strengthen state legal guidelines governing toy or imitation weapons with the intention to make them simply identifiable and forestall them from being utilized in crimes. 

“My prime precedence as governor is preserving New Yorkers protected, and meaning cracking down on units used to commit crime,” Hochul mentioned. “Proscribing these realistic-looking units will guarantee deceptive and doubtlessly harmful units are off our streets, preserving children, legislation enforcement and all New Yorkers protected.”  

The legislation would require the imitation weapons to be coloured vivid white, crimson, orange, yellow, inexperienced, blue, pink or purple. They can be constructed with trapsarent or translucent materials. New York Metropolis already bars imitation weapons and the brand new provision is supposed to create consistency within the state. 

There have been not less than 63 shootings in New York statewide on account of imitation weapons being mistaken for actual weapons. 

The measure was sponsored by Sen. Brad Hoylman and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti.
