Viscarra despatched me an interview with a Haitian immigrant (“one of many obvious leaders,” he informed me), who complained of indiscriminate deportations of potential refugees. “Human rights are being violated,” the person says. “They can’t simply seize folks, put them in a bus and throw them to Guatemala. That’s racist, and that’s why we’re protesting.” The person goes on to elucidate the dire state of affairs Haitian immigrants face in Tapachula. “Persons are sleeping within the streets, below the rain. We’d like meals. They’re harassing us,” he says. When Viscarra tells him that the border with the USA is closed, the person tells him that they now not wish to to migrate to the USA. All they need is to go away Chiapas and go elsewhere in Mexico in quest of alternatives. “Right here, they deal with us like animals,” he says.
