[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, submitted by a verified resident. It does not necessarily reflect the opinions of The B-Town Blog, nor its staff:]
In 1972, the individuals of Washington put forth an initiative proposal to control the financing of political exercise on this state. Initiative 276 was permitted by 72 % of voters. I used to be part of that initiative effort whereas at College. Then in 1992, over 72 % of voters enacted contribution limits with the approval of Initiative 134.
Then alongside comes an nameless mailer within the Burien Metropolis Council election. We should always all be offended that native politics has sunk so low.
Even when the nameless mailer will not be illegal, as an undisclosed unbiased expenditure, it’s disingenuous, dishonest and disrespectful of the individuals’s selection for open elections.
I name on each Burien voter to reject secretive political financing and reject any candidate who would help such an effort. Our elections are open and clear by selection. Those that would follow or profit from dishonest, secretive politics don’t deserve our vote.
