The Southeast and Caribbean Local weather Alliance fashioned earlier this yr to deal with these points. It is made up of Sea Grant programs from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and likewise the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention.
LaToya J. O’Neal, an assistant professor and well being and wellness specialist on the UF/IFAS Extension, is part of this new group. She mentioned they will convey stakeholders collectively to learn how excessive climate occasions contribute to well being disparities and well being inequities.
“The stakeholder engagement and suggestions goes to be essential to us having the ability to develop options and determine what packages and what outreach alternatives make sense to advance well being fairness,” she mentioned.

O’Neal will assist facilitate the discussions, that she hopes will result in belief and consensus-building to be able to develop options.

The group is within the planning phases proper now, however the year-long analysis challenge is funded by a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Division of Commerce.
